Melbourne Zoo Adventure

G'day from a sunny beautiful yet chilly day in Melbourne, Australia.

Today was a relax day, such as yesterday was but today it was the ZOO instead of the Aquarium. Last night I crawled into bed around 9:30pm and after just over 30 minutes I couldn't barely hold my eyes open anymore and next thing I knew I was blinking as if I had just closed my sleepy eyes for a moment but in fact it had been about 40 minutes that passed, same position, same page on my e-reader, just time passed napping I suppose. Since I did have a decent sleep except for the seemingly innocent dream that suddenly turned into a murder story, I did sleep alright and when 8am rolled around I was almost ready to go.

Heading into the city early on I sat on the train for a nice sunny ride in towards the tall shinny buildings and disembarked at Flinders Street where I didn't both fighting with a confusing train system and just grabbed at a taxi, within 20 minutes I was standing in the entrance way of the Melbourne ZOO headed in the direction of monkeys first. P.S - I hate monkeys... they creep me out and so I skipped them mostly.

The day was a great success with everything from big male lions to a playful Platypus, ducks, lemurs, a blue winged Kookaburra that was gorgeous! Sleepy Koala's, a giraffe family and many more. The ZOO wasn't very busy, maybe due to the chill in the air but I passed a few school groups which reminded me of my own dreadful school trips while I was in school, but my favorite had always been the Toronto ZOO, still to this day I love to walk through on a nice sunny day and I always visit the ZOO and aquarium of whatever city I am in, assuming they have one to visit.

After the ZOO it was a toss up for the rest of the afternoon; Walk around the city for a bit and then hop a very busy train back to Mooroolbark Railway Station with all the angry and tired business-folk or leave the city earlier on a quieter train with space to stretch and enjoy the quiet read of a part of my e-book. The latter won out although the train was not as quiet as I thought it might have been but I would be home early enough to get a bike ride in and enjoy a nice shower, maybe play with Uncle Derek's guitar a bit before Aunt Kim came home and we headed out for a nice dinner somewhere in town, well it seems that my day was a little screwy from the moment I got off the train. I had called a taxi... after 30 minutes I called again, then after another 20 I called again and then twice more before finally Aunt Kim picked me up after waiting nearly an hour and 10 minutes for a taxi that never did show and by that time we did get home I was tired, very cold and the sun was leaving the sky faster then expected. I unfortunately therefore missed my bike ride and almost froze to death as I waited in the cold for the taxi so by the time the hot pizza showed but at dinner I was ready to top it back and head home for a shower.

A great conversation with one of the best Aunts in the world :) and a trip home to a warm shower. Waiting on clothes to wash and dry and then I'm ready to read and get to bed soon. Headed to Horsham tomorrow for a surely busy weekend with the kids and Uncle Marty and then to Echuca for a busy few days with Uncle Len and the gang! Ready for the trip to take off at a fast pace.

Goodbye for now

Cheers,

  1. I also enjoyed our pizza dinner Ariel. Look forward to reading about your travels around the rest of the family over the next few days. More dogs, more kids - you'll love it. Thanks for easing my nerves by plotting your progress to Horsham with me today. You have a right to feel very proud of how you're managing to find your way around. Enjoy! Missing you.
